If you didn't know already, it was the start of the new F1 season this weekend. Sorry if you are still to watch the race, but you have had plenty of time by now. The race itself was good fun. Lots of interesting stuff and some good overtaking. And particularly good for Brawn GP. If you don't know, they are what used to be Honda, but they only had about 2 weeks before the season to go from not expecting to be racing at all, to getting the team ready to actually winning the race, so good for them. On the BBCs coverage, it wasn't bad and it was nice to not have adverts, but i think they are still learning and i hasn't too happy how they didn't show the build up for the repeat. Hence i woke up at 6:00AM (that's actually 5 because of the clocks going forward) to watch the real race with all the extra, including an interesting extra they had afterwards on the red button. Lets just hope that next weeks race will be as good.
Nothing much else happening this week, plenty of work to do. The lights in my shower room broke half way through a shower and blew the fuse for all lights in the house. But that's fixed now.

Before i start i would like to say Happy Birthday to dad for tomorrow (9th). I wont say how old he is, but lets just say its a special one ;).
This week has been quite quiet as expected. I actually spent almost 3 days making the shadow behind our job adverts look slightly worse. A;though that makes it sound like a waste of time. We have had trouble in the past with the shadow obscuring the adverts and just generally not displaying well in some different browsers. So, i spent all the time testing out different ideas in as many different browsers as i could until i found one shadow effect that looked the same in all of them. If you are bored then please could you test this in all browsers you have access to and let me know if any look bad.
Also this week i have been working on a little scrolling shooting game similar to one i did for one of my uni modules, but incorporating my particle engine and generally making it better. If i can work out how, then i should be able to show people who are interested when i am home next weekend.

The Quiet Before (and After) the storm

Not much happening this week. I have been resting after what happened last week. Also, if you don't know, i will be home in two weeks for Tom's/Dad's Birthday party. As far as work goes, i have really just been tweaking the site over the last week. Attempting to turn our popular features into very popular features. Also there is still talk of our next big project. I wont say what it is on here, just in case it affects it in some way, but some of you should know what i mean. Although it will probably be put on hold for a few weeks now, as Justin is on holiday for the next 2 weeks, making for a quiet fortnight.
In games this week. I have been playing more flower. If you haven't already, i would still recommend anyone get this. Also, i am getting near the end of Fallout 3 for the second time. Oh and this.
In other news, we finally have a full house again. Someone moved in downstairs last week and someone has just moved in upstairs as well. Both of them seem fine, which is good.
Well, i think that will do for this week, i think im going back to bed. (Who writes a blog at quarter to ten on a Sunday morning...)

Don't Feed the Yao Guai

Hellooooo Everyone,
Just a quick update this week. Not much happening really. At work i have been implementing a system to allow people to import there email contacts to the site and then send them an invite to join. This is proving quite annoying as each email system is different and some don't even provide the data. But s far i have a system to get emails from google mail and any non web based email system, like MS outlook. All good fun.
For games this week, if you cont tell from the title (probably not) I have been playing a lot of fallout 3, still, as it is a really great game. Just make sure you don't finish it. Also, this week Flower finally came out on PSN. If you don't know, Flower is a rather odd game that has you control the wind with the objective of pollinating flowers to turn a very dull landscape bright and colourful. Its quite short, but for £6.29 i would recommend it to any one that like something nice to look at or who wants to relax for a few hours as it is very simple to control, but very beautiful.
In the news this week, more people complaining about stuff.

Bankers are bankers

Not much going on this week, so i thought I'd talk about something boring. If you haven't already heard, the band of England has this week put the base rate down to an all time low of 1% and as far as im concerned this is an absolutely ridiculous thing to do. Unless i have been very miss informed, the reason we are in the economic state we in s because the bands loaded out too much money. So the band of England's response to this is to make it even easier to borrow money. To say a cliché in an unusual way, My house is on fire, i know what to do, lets turn on the gas. And on a person level, i have some savings and i have a student debt, before i was making money on this arrangement, but now i am not, because apparently saving is a bad idea now.
Well, now that i have got that off my chest, lets find something more interesting, Games. This week i have been playing a lot of Fallout 3, which is a very good game. And if you are into RPGs but are worried about it having guns, don't worry, they work much like a fire spell if you use the auto aiming system. The only real problem i have with the game though is the end. I wont give away the ending, but when i they say they have multiple endings, all they are, are different static pictures with a narrator talking over the top. And that's if you get that far without turning off the game from the really naff bit just before the supposed ending.
In other gaming news, Telltale games in planning on making a Wallace and Gromit games. If you don't know Telltale, they making point and click adventure games, in episodic format with lots of humour along the way. Which, i reckon, with the Wallace and Gromit licence could make for a very good game/series.
Well, i'm tired and it getting late so i will just say that it has snowed here again today, although not much.

Redesigning

Hellooo Everyone.
I slightly mentioned this last week, but i have spent the whole of the past week redesigning the whole of the executvesontheweb Candidate area. And also generally messing the whole look of the site. If you want to have a look at the whole thing then you can always make an account, its not that hard or long. But for others i thought i would get some screen shots so everyone can have a little look. This is what the candidate area used to look like and this is what it looks like now.
If you are a golf fan, then i have just the game for you, Pangya. Pangya, is a simple, fully online golf game that is really easy to get into. If you would like you have a go then let me know and i will send you and email that could get you (and me) some extra starting money, also we could have a match.
I said last week that the sims 3 was coming out very soon. Well unfortunately it looks like it might be delayed slightly. Apparently, someone from EA will say something about this in the next week or so, so i will keep any one who is interested posted on this. It's a shame if it is delayed, but i would much rather a delayed game that worked to a game released now with lots of bugs in it..
In more general news, for some reason lots of people are protesting at some oil refinery or something about how Foreigners are getting jobs over British workers. And to be honest i am finding hard to have any sympathy for them at all. Firstly, on the original dispute, it makes prefect sense that Italians are working there as its an Italian company who are running it. But on a more general level, surely it should be the person who is best suited to the job who gets it not someone who happens to live near by. And on a personal level, i wouldn't be very happy if i applied for a job in Japan and someone else get the job just because they were Japanese and i was actually a lot better than them. So to those who are protesting, get some better skills, ask for less pay (like those foreigners you hate) or stop complaining.
Well, i think that should do for this week, i hope i have bored everyone sufficiently. Just before i go though, it has just started snowing here, again.

みんな、こんにちわとようこそへわたしのブログ。
Not much happening this week, but i said i would keep this up, so i thought I'd make it interesting by making you translate the first sentence. At work this week i have been making a search feature for the career profiles that i mentioned last week. Unfortunately unless you are a paid member you cant use and actual filtering, but you can have a look a short summary and picture of lots of profiles, which is good fun. Well at least for me as i can see that lots of people are using something that i made. We actually have a lot more that you can view even if you are a paid member, but im not sure I'm aloud to say exactly how many we have. Another thing i have been doing this week is completely redesigning the candidate area of executivesontheweb.com, which could have quite a big impact of the site as a whole, which is good fun. If you want to see what a mess it is now then please do create an account and have a good look round. You might even find yourself a new job.
In the news this week, some good news for a change. America actually has a president again. As he agrees more with what the rest of the world thinks maybe, just maybe, the world wont explode. Now if we could just get China on board, but anyway, its definitely a good thing that America has someone with some common sense in charge. Actually with the current situation here, where if we had an election, whoever you voted for we wouldn't be in any better position, I'm tempted to move to America. Especially as there are some very good games companies out there who would be great to work for. And, compared to Japan (the other place I'm considering going), (if the first sentence of this blog is anything to go by) I can speak the language and i like the food. Not that im saying that im giving up my plans to go to Japan.
Another good piece of news this week, Jonathan Ross is finally back on our screens. Although this does come of a rather ridiculous story where he was suspended because of complaints about him from people that had absolutely nothing to do with the issue.
Well, lets move onto something a little less controversial (and i didn't write my whole view on that last story), Games. I have just realised that since i finished Dreamfall i now seem to be playing 5 games at once. Which is slightly confusing, although not as confusing as working on two websites at once. For all you golf fans out there i have been playing the free to play Pangya, Which is good fun and if you decide to have a go, let me know and we can have a match. For all you Sims fans out there (and i know there are some), The Sims 3 is coming out in less than a month.
Well, i think I've rambled on enough for this week.

Welcome to The My Blog

Hellooo and welcome to The My Blog
As you may know, i haven't written anything here for quite some time now. So i though, new start, new name. And if you have ever heard my mention My Blog before (there i go again) then you will understand it, hopefully. One of the reasons for not updating this in the past few months is that there wasn't that much going on really and i couldn't think of much interesting to say. So now, in the new form, i might try and add some different things to this blog, that i didn't mention before. I have no idea what that will turn into, but we will see what people like and I'll probably ignore that and write what i want to write about.
So, what has been happening the past few months, i hear you ask. Well, i saw most people over Christmas, so you have your chance to ask questions then, so i'll keep this short. I have been working. Well that was nice and short now.
Now onto more interesting stuff.A quick story about what happened at work yesterday. On Thursday, someone sent an email to the executivesontheweb.com support 'team' saying that when they tried viewed a job advert all they could see was the header and footer and he couldn't see the actual job advert. For some reason, i was asked to sort this out. So yesterday, i did so,e research into the problem, i knew this man was using Firefox 3 on Windows Vista. So i tested the page using Firefox, vista and both. None of them replicated the problem, so i asked him to try a test page i made up with some more complicated elements removed, this made no difference. I also asked him to remove any add-ons he had installed. He relied saying that he had removed an ad-on called AdBlock and it worked and he was very happy. I could have just stopped there, but i though it would be interesting to install AdBlock for myself and sure enough, the advert disappeared. I checked the adBlock menu and it said hat it had blocked element 'adheader'. Which happened to be the name of the element that held the main job advert. So basically, it saw an 'Advert' and blocked it even though no one would go to this page not wanting to see this advert. So, i changed the name of this element (to atdheader) and bang, the advert was back. So, hows that for customer service, one day someone writes n with a problem, the next day, i solve the problem twice. Well, that was a long and boring story, so lets continue.
Now for a commercial break. If you haven't already please check out these two sites that i am working on currently, executivesontheweb.com and theexecutiveclub.com/. Also, one thing i have been working a lot on recently (and have personally build from scratch) is the executive club career profile. If you go to that link and then click on any of the photos at the bottom (they change on refresh, by the way) then you can see some full examples of the profiles. Basically the Career profile is a mixture between social networking and a CV. So, if you are looking for a job, you can make a profile then either give to to employers live a CV or employers can search the database of profiles to find some they are interesting in employing. I would show you the search, but its only for paid members and i haven't quite fully released it yet. I don't think Justin (our operations director and effectively my boss) really knows what he wants from it.
And we are back. Now for some news. I was going to talk about my vuews on a number of news stories that have been around the last few weeks, but then i saw this story about how the Czech Republic has a piece of art commissioned with one of the purposes being to show that there wasn't any censorship left in Europe. And now a lot of people, seemingly including the Czechs want it removed. I think this sums up my feeling=s on a lot of new stories lately, so i wont bore you with any more.
Now onto something a little more enjoyable, games. Ok, i know that most people reading this aren't overly interesting in games, but i also know that most people reading this have played at least one game in the past and enjoyed it. So, i have just finished up playing Dreamfall: the longest journey, which is a Brilliant game in many ways. But i wanted to bring this game up as i think it and its predecessor, the longest journey, and games that can be enjoyed my people that wouldn't normally play games. They are both adventure games, which are basically interactive novels. So if you enjoy a good book or a good film then there is a lot that you could get out of this. Even if you get someone else to solve all the puzzles for you. So if you are bored, out of books to read or films to watch, i recommend that you play the longest journey and then Dreamfall, you wont regret it.
Well, i think that will do for the first edition of The My Blog. I intend to update this once a week, probably on a Saturday or Sunday. So don't forget to check back then. Helloooooooo everyone
Sorry i haven't updated this in a while, but to be honest not that much happened for a while and most people probably knew what i was doing anyway. Well when i say nothing interesting has happened, that was until a few weeks ago, when i moved up to Lichfield. I have now started work for http://www.executivesontheweb.com/. So far it has been a good experience and hopefully i should put me in a good place to finish my degree and beyond.
Unfortunately, i haven't got an internet connection at home at the moment, so updating this is harder. But hopefully today they are installing my phone line so that i can finally get it sorted, so then i will be able to make and (hopefully) interesting blog again. Although, it probably wont be under this name, as i am planing to relaunch my blog when i get my internet connection, so look out for some new content then. If you have any ideas when you would like me to talk about then please do leave a comment and we will see what happens.

Week off (well, almost)

Not much to say this week. On Wednesday i had my CG demo, which went fine. Ticks in just about all the boxes possible. Then i had my Game demo today, which was fun. Showing of games is always fun. Especially when you find that the game is actually really hard and you are only good at it because of all the practise from testing.
Also this week i have been combining my physics engines game from last semester with this game that i have just demoed. This seems to be going quite well. More news on that as it comes.
Well, i think that'll do for this week, next week will be all revision.

Interviews part 3: the return (and wrath) of Accenture

Sorry i didn't update last week, i had a lot on my mind. So now, its almost all done, lets see if i can remember it all. Firstly, last Friday i had an interview with Rental Result. They seemed very nice and the interview was very technical which was good. I also had the good fun of handing in my web report that day, when i had only found out it was due the day before. I think i managed to get it done ok though.
So then this week. On Monday i went into London for my second round interview with Accenture. That was interesting and i managed to find my way round London better this time. Then on Wednesday, i had my demo for my Web apps assignment, which was ok, i suppose, although i never expected it to be my best module. Then on Thursday i went to a nice little village called Alsager for an interview with Galleria. Then also seemed nice, although their tech interviewer was very negative towards everyone. Also that day, as soon as i got home i had a Maths test to attend, which was fun. Finally yesterday my CG assignment was due so i handed that in nicely.
So, now its the weekend and the semester has finished, so i have only a few things to do in the next 3 weeks before i come home for the summer. For now, a am working on my Games project which is due in Thursday. I also have my CG demo on Wednesday, but as i don't have any lectures this should be fine.
On a final note and hence the Wrath, i got an email from Accenture yesterday saying that i hadn't got that job. But never mind, i still have two others and i have applied for some more. So, i think that'll do for now.

Interviews part 2

just a quick update as placement interviews seems to be coming in think and fast now. Firstly i have an interview with Rental Result. Then i have an interview with Galleria next Thursday in Cheshire. I also have a Maths test that day, so that should be fun. But the best thing is that i have just found that i was successful in my phone interview yesterday and have been invited to a a second round 'technical' interview in London on Monday. So it looks like i have a lot of trip planing to do...

I have just had my interview with Accenture Technology Solutions. I think it went quite well, especially for a telephone interview. I better not say too much here just in case they are reading this. Hello if you are. Apparently i should hear in 5 to 10 days, so look for the outcome next week. Also i have just (this second) got an email from the placements office saying i have an interview with Rental Result this Friday at the uni. So that should be fun.
In other news, i have just really been doing a lot of work this week to get assignments done and to as higher standard as possible. Although i think i may have spent too much time on my filling algorithm...

Sorry for the extended Easter outage, I've been busy getting everything sorted and back to normal and then there was April fools day yesterday, when i didn't want to post, just in case. Anyway, what's been happening. Well Easter happened, that was fun and chocolaty. I went bowling with auntie Sue and Steve and lost badly. Although i did win the post match air hockey after almost breaking the bar with the puck. Oh yeah, i had an interview with Reuters, it went well, but unfortunately now well enough. SO I'm still applying. In better news, i have a phone interview with Accenture on Monday and i just got an email from Eutechnyx saying that they are considering me and asked for some demo work, so that is good.
Not much else happening now, just trying to finished everything off before the end of the semester in 2 and a half weeks from now. So, i suppose i should better get back to it.

Last Week, Busy Week

Last week was quite busy and so is this week, which happens to be the last week of term. Anyway, last week I had my first interview. And to anyone who is thinking its a good idea, don't have phone interviews. AS for mine, i don't think i got the job, as they said i didn't care enough about the company, which is probably true. Fortunately, thus weeks one is for a better well known company, that i do actually want to work for. But more on that in a minute. Also, this week i had a presentation of my design for my web apps assignment, which i think went as well as it could have done, considering its only 20% and my least favourite part.
So, onto this week. I have my interview with Reuters on Wednesday and i will be going down to London Tuesday night as they have been nice and book a hotel for me. This interview should be good, although its quite long as we start at 8:15 and end at 1. Although i better now say too much bad about it as they might be reading this (hello is you are). Joking aside, it should be a good day out, and i should be meeting mum and Auntie Sue afterwards, which should be fun.
So, then after that i only have two more days before then end of this term. I should, hopefully be coming home on Saturday, if all goes well. I think there is also something else going on that day, but i forget what.

Happy Mothers Day

Ok, Mothers day was yesterday, but i doubt many of you are reading this today anyway. So yeah another week flies by. Nothing that much of interest really, well apart from the obvious mothers day event, but i think I've said everything i need to say about that (well maybe...).
One nice thing is that i have a second interview (if you haven't heard already). Its with a company called Detica. They seem a fairly decent company and they are based in Guildford, which isn't too far from home. The job there is a nice software development role, that i think i would be very good for. They should be phoning me on Wednesday if al goes to plan, so i'll let people know if it went well after then. Also this week, i have a presentation for my design for my web apps assignment, which should be fun. Fortunately it's only worth 20%, so it doesn't matter too much if i mess it up.
Oh yeah (he says remembering something big), i got my semester one results this week. A rather mixed bad really, although the two bad ones were always going to be bad and could be the worst modules i do at uni, especially as everyone seem to do worse on them. Well the results were (out of 15)
Further Object Orientated Programming - 15
Programming Physics Engines for Games - 15
Database and Web Database Systems - 9
Professional and Enterprise Development - 8
So not terrible (8 or 9 is about equivalent to a C) but it would have been nice to keep to all 10+s. Never mind, as i said they weren't the best modules ever and my programming modules where OK, i suppose...
Well, that went on a bit longer than i expected, oh well.

No Orange Juice

I ordered lots of stuff from ASDA on-line over last week, which came on Saturday. All was going well at first, they have even got the right ragu. But then i realised that there was no orange juice like i ordered. Which is very annoying as its heavy to carry home. But fortunately about half an hour later just before i emailed ASDA about it, i got a phone call from the delivery man saying he had found it in the back of his van. So i did now have everything, which is good.
Not much else happening this week, working quite a bit on my Computer Graphics project, although its hard to see the changes, but it dies work a lot better underneath.

Half way through the term

It feels like yesterday that i came back up here after Christmas, but i am now half way through this 10 week term. So that means, in another short 5 weeks i will be home for easter. Doesn't time fly when you are having fun. Of which i am having as this semester is going quite nicely. The only thing tat is slowing me down at the moment is applying for a placement. But i have just applied for 3 placements and i am half way through another (damn IBM wanting lots of long written answers).
Not much else happening round here though, just lots of work (well and some games). So everything is going well, nut still if you have any more placement ideas i would love to hear them.

Recycling centre

The last few weeks seem to have gone by very quickly without very much happening. But one thing i have noticed is that out hose seems to look like a recycling centre. This is because Tim and Rich bought 4 new bins for the new recycling system we have which starts tomorrow. But its very confusing because everything goes in different places and our whole kitchen is full of bins...
Well apart from the bins thing everything seems to be going well here. I have made a simple paint program for computer graphics and i have a moving mossy and doughnut for windows game programming. Which is good. I'm still looking for a placement but a few seem to be coming out now, so i just need to apply for them now. That'll be next weekends job if i don't do it before.
Well, i think that's a lot more than has really happened this week so I'll leave it there.

First week of new semester

I've had my first week back now and everything seems good. My thoughts where correct that there shouldn't be nay bad modules. As far as my timetable goes, i have 1 lecture on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, 2 on Friday and a mammoth 8 hour 6 lecture day on Thursday. Which is slightly odd but it gets everything out ten way in one day, which is nice i suppose.
Also this week, something that everyone will find exciting. We got a new bin and its blue... (if your truly excited pease ask me about it as its really not that interesting apart from its blue).
Another thing, that really is more interesting (i think), that i have been doing is working on my queens game. Making it more stable and adding in things from last semester to make it generally work better. You probably wont notice much, but check back later in the week as i might put up a new version for testing as i have made some quite major changes.

Start of the New Semester

I'm back after a nice long holiday. Happy new year to everyone reading this and i hope everyone has a great 2008.
Anyway, this week, i had 3 exams that all when quite well actually, which is good. Java was always going to be the best of them. Physics engines was interesting with some writing and some maths questions. Then there was PED, which is you don't know already is basically all the boring parts of computing. So there was a lot of writing, but in the end i don't think the questions were to bad, so i should have at least passed it.
So now straight onto the next semester. This semester i will be studying (checks notes): Computer Graphics, Mathematics and Algorithmics, Windows Games Programming and Web Applications. So it should be quite a good semester, with no obvious bad module like i have always had before.

only a week left before i can come home for Christmas. Not much work left now too, which is good. I've handed in my database project and demoed my physics engine. So all i have this week is to demo the database project and do a Java portfolio test. Of which my portfolio just needs compiling to be ready for the test. So im all set really. Which is good as I've been playing FFXI all week.

New Sofa

On Saturday i got a bit of a surprise. I was just doing some work when Mr Maguire (our landlord) appeard outside my window. When i went to let him in, he said had had a new sofa and arm chairs for us. So we now have a new furniture in the living room, which is nice. Very unexpected, but nice.
The last week has been quite busy. PED assignment was due in Thursday and we had a database test on Wednesday. fortunately both went fine and even better i have just handed in my physics engine project. So only 2 more assignment die in before the end of term in 2 weeks. The only bad thing is that Square Enix have just sent me a free copy of final fantasy XI, which will make work a little harder. But it should be fine s im almost done with them anyway.

Busy busy busy

lots of work to do in the next few weeks (and now) so I'll keep this short. Not much really happening to talk about anyway. One thing i have done is, last night i actually sent of my first placement application form. I sent it off to Rare, who are a very big, English, games company and would be very good to get into, although very hard too. So, now i just have to apply to some more.
Only 3 more weeks till the end of term. Which sounds good on the surface, but then i realise i still have quite a bit of work to do this term. Hopefully, it shouldn't be too bad. I'm just about up to date with things and everything should (hopefully) fall into place when it needs to.

a few results for you this week. In my FOOP portfolio test that i mentioned a few weeks ago i got 90%, which i thought was fairly good. Also, i got my database project part one back today, which was part group and part individual. But overall i got a C, which isn't too bad considering what it is.
Not much else really happening this week, just lots more work. One thing i have been working on a lot lately is my physics engine, which was now turned into a little game, which hopefully follows at least the minimum spec for the assignment. If you would like to have a look either ask me for it or you could ask Tom to show you, as he has it running on his computer. Also, i am looking, at the moment, for a placement fir next year. Which isn't going to well. So, if anyone hears of any programming related placement opportunities, preferable games, but not necessarily. Then, please let me know.

Too much rice

Sorry for the late update (again), but I've been 'busy' with Ratchet and clank future. Great game, but i won't bore you with that.
This week i got my shopping from ASDA online so i didn't even nee to go out to get shopping, was was fun. Mostly it went fine apart from one thing they got was wrong (and it was 5 weeks supply of it too). but the main problem is this bit bag of rice i have behind me. 4Kg is quite a lot of rice...
Also, last Monday we had some more fireworks which was fun and we even had some real ones in with the weed killer/icing sugar wine bottle candles.
Work wise, it seems to be a bit more relaxed all of a sudden. Last week we had out FOOP portfolio test 1 and database demos and now there is nothing due in till the end of term (or close enough). Not that that means i have nothing to do, it just means that i can do it at a more leisurely pace, which is good. And i can focus on my physics engine again, which is coming along nicely.

Firework

As the more eagle eyed among you may have noticed, there is no s on the end of my title. That's right, we had 1 firework, and very nice it was too. Basically, Tim mixed some weed killer and some icing sugar, put it in a copper tube that was in the ground and lit it with a blow torch. Not the most standard firework night ever (not that it is quite firework night yet) but still good fun.
In more boring news, my workload for the next few weeks should be a but less than it has been of late. We handed in out database project on Thursday and we also did out PED presentation that day. And o have just finished my portfolio for my FOOP test on Thursday. Out next deadline is almost at the end of term, so i can relax a bit for now. Obviously i will be getting the work done for these deadlines throughout the rest of term, but it should be a bit more relaxed.

As some (most) of you know i came come for the weekend and saw lots of people, which was nice. So, as i have seen people and i have lots of work to do, i'll keep this short.
Not much else really happened in the past week. Lots of work, although most of it's done now and the PED is handed in. After this week everything should calm down a bit until closer to Christmas.
In other news, when i got back last night, i found a package on my bed, which had 4 Wiimote jackets in, that Nintendo had nicely sent me free of charge. And even though they are basically rubbish, they were free.

Sorry that this is a bit late but I've been very busy this week with work and sporting events. The first and main one being that Kimi Raikkonen has finally won a Formula 1 world Championship. I'm sorry to all lewis Hamilton fans, but I've been supporting Kimi from before i even knew lewis existed. And to be honest i think Kimi was the most deserving out of the 3. Yes lewis was very good, but its only his first season, he has loads of chances ahead. Whereas Kimi should really have 2 titles by now if it wasn't for things that are out of his control.
Also, in sports news, England are rubbish at sport. Not that that is really news, but we had 3 chances over the weekend and we lost them all. As well as lewis, we also had the rugby, although we never really were expected to win. Also there was the snooker where Ronnie O'Sullivan lost out to Marco Fu in the snooker grand Prix. So, generally, not a good week for English sport.
The other thing I've been busy with this week is work. Lots of unexpected work. First we were told last Thursday that out PED assignment was due in this Thursday and the last bit was only handed out on Monday. And, secondly no one told us that out database individual project was due in next week as well as the group part, so I've got that still to do. Fortunately the PED work is now handed in (as on an hour ago), so one bits done and the the database thing shouldn't take too long, i hope...
So, now all that's out the way, I'm coming home on Thursday... wait... that's tomorrow, damn, so that'll be a good rest from things. Although, i probably should do some FOOP over the weekend anyway.
Well, i think that's about it. Hopefully i'll see people over the weekend. My next entry may not be up until mid week next week again, depending what happens.

Mircosoft Talk

The big thing i did this week was attend a talk about .net that Microsoft put on of Wednesday at the uni. It was fairly interesting, but very biased. If you want to hear more about it then ask me some time, i wont go boring everyone here about how i hate Microsoft and bit business in general. The good thing though, is a got a tee-shirt and a pen out of it. the bad news is the tee shirt is a cube and they both have Microsoft in them...
Also this week, i finally met my other group members for my database assignment. They seems quite nice people and we are now almost finished with it, which is good. Also, i have been working a lot on my physics engine and now plays a bit like Pachinko (vertical pinball). If you would like to have a look then either contact me, or if you see Tom, then ask him, as i think he already has it set up. Another good thing that happened this week is that the boiler man came back and it is now fixed (i hope) so we have a proper warm house and warm water now how it should be. Which is nice.

Washing

Not much has happened this week. But the one good thing i have done is that i got the washing machine working. The problem with it is that the heating element is bust so you don't get any hot water. So i boiled a few kettles and put tat in and it seemed to work fine.
Not much else really happening at the moment, just getting into each of my modules for this term. A slight problem with my database module where i was in a group then was put in a another group with people i haver never met, but apparently they can't change that. It shouldn't be a problem as its only 25% of the assignment which is 50% overall.
Well, i can't think of much else so say so i'll leave it there for now

First week back

It was my first proper week back this week. Which was fun. This semester, if you don't know, i am studying: Further Object Orientated Programming (FOOP), Programming Physics engines for games, Professional Enterprise Development (PED) and Database and Web Database Systems. The last two, i'm no so much enjoying, but the first two are fun and it should be good next semester when, hopefully, i have 4 good modules. Not much really happened in lectures this week, just intros really. I think i have sorted out my timetable now so i have no clashes or anything.
A few things i have to sort put this week. I have my placement application for next year to sort out, i had a talk with one of the placement team about it and i think i can finish it now. Apparently i need to make myself sound better than 'good'... But the main thing i need to sort out is washing. The washing machine doesn't work so we went over to Stafford court to use theirs, but it was so busy we gave up. I should (hope) have enough clothes till the end of the week. Oh yeah, the other thing i did this week was cook a meal for Robert for the first time, that went better than expected...
anyway, i think that's about it for now

First week in my new house

Sorry i didn't update yesterday, but here we go.
Not much happened really this week. Everything seems fine. I've met both my new house mates now and they are both nice people, even if they are never around. But i don't really mind that as it means me and Robert get the house to our selves. Its a bit warmer too now, i fiddled with all the controls for it and it seems to work now.
I've just finished my first day back properly, which was fun. We had something of everything. FOOP (more java) and programming physics engines for games look fun, shame about the other too. The only problem is that i have a clash tomorrow and i still haven't quite sorted it out, but that should be fine (hopefully).
Well, i think that's about it for now, hopefully I'll remember next weekend.

Back in Stafford - again

Sorry for not updating at all over the summer, but it is nice to have a break.
Anyway, I'm back up in Stafford now in my new house with Robert and 2 other guys called Rich and Tim. I haven't actually met Rich yet as he was out all night partying with first years, but Tim seems nice. The house also seems very good. My room is plenty big enough and we have a nice living room as well.
Looks like i wont be doing much this week as all i have to do is register fir uni on Wednesday, but next week it will be back to work as usual. And hopefully i will also keep this up again like before, so expect a new entry every weekend (hopefully I'll get it up by the end of each Sunday anyway).

Home for the Summer

University has finished for the year and all my exams are done. So, i am not home for the whole of the summer. I'm still looking for a job to do over this very long holiday, but hopefully someone will show some interest soon. Not much really happening at the moment, just trying to 're-adapt' to life down here. The SAD exam on Friday went fine, nothing that exciting, but i never really expected much of it, but at least i should have passed.
Now about this blog. As i will be seeing people on a more regular basic again there is little need for me to write this. Although it is nice writing it, i just never seem to get round to doing it till the last minute when i forget everything i want to write, but that's another matter. But i will keep it up if people want me to. So if you do want me to continue with this then please leave a comment asking me to or ask me in person. And if no one does then i probably wont keep it up over the summer. Although i will definitely start again in September.

Last Week of the (Uni) Year

Hellooooooooo everyone
This is my last week up here before i come home for the, very long (3 months!!!), summer holidays. Obviously i won't just be at home doing nothing for the whole 3 months. I will be trying to get a job and when i do i will be working. I also need to finish learning to drive (with my hands on the wheel whilst turning this time). I will also try to get a proper version of my queens game working that everyone can play.
Talking of queens, since my last post, i think i have made a version that is 'playable'. When i say 'playable' i mean as long as you use some common sense and don't make any mistakes, it will work fine. But as soon as you make a mistake or do something that isn't meant to happen in queens it will do strange things. So, for this reason i will not be uploading this version until i make it flow a bit better and add some validation (to stop you making mistakes).
What else, oh year the C exam last Wednesday. That was fun, not too hard, but not too easy either. The only problem was i got stuck on the first question, but I'm used to that. After that it wasn't too bad at all. Only one exam left now, and that's on Friday, so it looks like i'll be coming home on Saturday. So see everyone then.

At Home for the Bank Holiday

Not much has been happening this week as it is my revision week and I haven’t got much revision to do. So because of that, and Robert went home for his dad's birthday (happy birthday My Hervey!!!), I decided also to come home for the weekend. This was especially good as it’s the bank holiday and I don’t have an exam till Wednesday so I’ll be going back on Tuesday. Sorry if I haven’t seen anyone this weekend, but I will be back in two weeks for the whole summer, so I’ll see everyone then.
Just so you know, last week I said I had a SAD demo and I had it on Monday and it went fine. Our tutor said we provisionally got a B for it, which is quite good for a module that I don't really enjoy. So that should be fine.

Getting very close now

This blog seems to have turned into a bit of a countdown to the end of my first year at Uni. And it doesn't look like its going to change either. This week way my last week of lectures this week, so that's one thing finished for the year. Also, i did 3 of my demos this week, which all went quite well. So, only one more demo, which is tomorrow, and is probably going to be the hardest as its SAD, but it is only a database, so what can go wrong, huh? After that i will just have 2 exams till the end of term, unfortunately the last one is not for another 3 weeks yet. It looks like i will be doing a lot of nothing (if that's possible) in the next few weeks. I will obviously do some revision, but i really wont need 3 weeks worth so pass. Especially as in our SAD 'mock' paper we did i passes with an A.
In other news, i am attempting to get a job in ASDA (or anywhere else that will take me for that mater). I'll hopefully be posting off the form tomorrow after i do the demo and hand in my C assignment (which i finished yesterday). So i may actually do my first proper job over the summer...
I may do some work on my queens game over the next few weeks as i have nothing else to do, so look out for updates on that. If not then i will definitely have a good go over the summer holiday. So watch this space [ space ] !!!

Lots of Work - But almost done

I've been doing load of work this week to get all my assignments done. So much so that i didn't play many games all week. I had Java to get in for Thursday and SAD and Web for Friday, including a 2000 word report. But after a lot of work i managed to get it all done and in on time. But the good news is that i now only have my C assignment, demos and 2 exams to do and I'll be done for the year. So i have almost finished my first year of university. Also the C is almost done, all i need to do is write it up and i'm done.
This weekend i haven't been doing much, just resting after a week of work. Making up for all the wasted gaming hours... Next week shouldn't be too hard as quite a few lectures and tutorials aren't on as we have basicly finished some courses. Java and web are actually complete apart from demos next week as they only had course work. And for SAD we just have demos next week, except we done have ours till week Monday as our tutor is in America (i think). So that just leaves C which we have a revision lecture. So plenty of time to finish the assignment. So it looks like everything is going very well up here. Well, i think that's about it for this week. I need to get back to looking for a summer job...

I'm back in Stafford for the last term of my first year of uni. and its only 5 weeks long. I have 2 weeks of work (loads this week as my assignments are due in at the end of the week), then a week of revision and finally 2 weeks of exams with only 2 exams in. Then i can come home for a very long summer break. Although it does look like I'll be getting a job for it, but down in Canterbury preferably. Nothing much of interest happening at the moment. I'm Home with a PS3

sorry for the late update, but I've been a bit busy the last few days. On Friday i went and picked up my PS3, which unfortunately has still not come out of its box. But that is mainly because Tom also got one so i have been using his. I'll hopefully get mine out of its box today though, if i get round to it.
On Saturday we spent about 7 hours on the road to get back home from Stafford. Which wasn't fun. Especially the 2 hours on the M25 and 1 hour on a round-a-bout. But we made it in the end, so i am home now. Then on Sunday and Monday i helped clear out Grandma's house and it now looks a lot cleaner and tidier. A lot of heavy lifting though, you wouldn't believe quite how many tellys there were in there.
Then yesterday, i spent most of the day sorting out all of my electrical things and getting then working properly. Oh and getting Toms PS3 working again as i set it up on my screen in HD and it didn't want to go back to normal on my bit telly. Electrical tat, can't live with it, but you can live without it either...
Well, i think that'll do for now, i better go and do some work. I hope i see lots of you over the next few weeks.

Happy Mothers day. I hope no one forgot. Well, as i can i would like to say Happy mothers day to: firstly my mum, then to nanny and grandma, and finally to all other mothers out there, i hope you all have a great day.

Something just happened that i though needed a second title. Just a few minutes i was having lunch and Robert said it was snowing, it wasn't much so i didn't really think anything of it. But when i got back to my room it started again and it was definitely snow! Has anyone else had any snow today?
Also, on Tuesday we have another damned room inspection. Not sure why as i thought they and only just done the last one, but never mind, its a good reason to do some cleaning. Well, I'll be home next week and hopefully with a PS3, so see people very soon

My light switch broke

Last Wednesday, i went into my bathroom, as i do every other day. But when i pulled the cord to turn on the light it just kept coming and i found it had completely snapped up inside the box thingy at the top. So i reported it to the accommodation office and first thing the next morning (a bit early for me, but never mind) a man knocked on my door shouting electrician. So i let him in and he fixed it. I now have a nice new switch which shouldn't break. That's about all exciting that happened this week, isn't my life interesting....
Well, i have been doing work on my assignments and they seem to be going quite well. Well apart from my C assignment where if you input a team name of " " (ie a space) then it outputs as a smiley face, which is odd. Also, unfortunately, i bought the Sims 2 seasons on Friday. But it was only £20 and it was definitely worth it, much better than Pets.

Site update

Not much has happened this week really. I had my OOEDP test on Thursday, which was fairly easy, but it was always going to be, as it was basically just checking we had done all the work before hand. I've been playing a lot of FFXII. I think I'm on about 40 hours now...
But the main thing of note i have done this week, is update my website. You probably wont notice much difference as all the content is the same. It's more how the site works that i have improved. Basically, before, all pages apart from the blog page hada bit frame in the middle for the content. But now, they all use an include file which puts on the menus and stuff instead. This makes the site flow a lot better and i can link to any page better. And it still saves me time, as i only have to change the include file and not every page. Oh and a quick note, if you have a book mark which ends in index.html, you'll need to change it to index.asp (its the asp that makes it work. But as its such a small name, you shouldn't need to change anything.

Semester 1 Results

I got my semester 1 results today and you'll be happy to know that i passed everything very well. For ISD, HSSN and maths i got 15/15 and for the games and graphic systems i got 12/15 - i think i must have lost those 3 marks on the graphical side of my project. So overall very good and if i can keep it up i should be on for a good degree. Also talking of results, we just handed in out SAD group project and we have a java test on Thursday. So i should have some more results in the coming weeks.
On Friday, one of the biggest games on this year came out, Final Fantasy XII. So if you don't hear much from me in the next few weeks, you know what I'm doing. I wont bore you with what i think of the game *cough*overrated*cough* (sorry). If you want to know what i think then ask me sometime.
As for my blog, that you are very kindly reading at this minute, I've been a bit lazy with updating it lately. and no one shouted at me about not updating again last week like i said. Well, from now on i think i will make it a weekly update. I will try to get each weeks update on-line by the end of Sunday each week/. So if you don't want to check for updates too often just try Monday morning. and if its not there someone please say something.

Luky escape

I was going to call this update "why do things always happen to me" as on train coming home this weekend we had 2 separate delays on the same train. First we almost hit a trespasser then there was points failure too. So from this i was an hour late for my connection so i had to get the next one. But that was all made fine on the way back. Firstly my ticket worked, not like last time. Then, i decided to get off at London bridge, as that's what my ticket said. And When i got on the tube there was an announcement saying that the Charing Cross underground (where i would have got off normally) was closed, but as i got off before it didn't matter at all.
I would talk more about what i did over the weekend but all i did was go to Kirsty's party apart from being on trains, and as most people that read this blog where there i wont bore you with what happened. Especially as nothing much did happen....
Anyway, i will try to update more as i haven't got anything to mess up my scedual of doing nothing now. So expect another update soon and shout at me if i don't.

I have a house

Well, when i say i have a house, i mean i have a rented room in a house. Its a very nice house though. Its detached, has 4 bedrooms, one for me, one for Robert and the two others have people already in them, but i have met them and they are very nice. Its also very close to the uni and is generally a very nice house.
It snowed today. Which means it was good that we went to look at the houses last night. Its not too bad and lectures went as planned. Well except the fire alarm went off half way through our OO lecture. But it wasn't the most interesting OO lecture anyway... Well, on Saturday, i have Mum, Tom, Auntie Sue and Nan coming up here for the weekend to see my room. Which is nice. Hopefully the snow wont stop them getting up here. We are going blowing on Saturday evening, which should be fun. Then next weekend i am coming home, so if anyone particularly wants to see me then get those bookings in quick before they go. :p

Houses

Some good news today, We may have a house to live in next year. The Uni put up a database of good houses on Monday. After we heard that people where picking then up very quickly, we decided to try some on Thursday. Unfortunately, as so many people were using it, the database wasn't working, so we left it till Friday. On Friday i phoned up a few people and all of them said that their houses has all gone. After a few of these, i decided to email a few more and call it a night. Later yesterday evening, one of them phoned back with some available houses and viewings on Wednesdays and Thursdays. So it sounds like we may be able to get one of these.
In other news, the box i said i bought last week has come. And it works brilliantly and the picture definitely looks better. Also I ordered to games from GAME which came yesterday. So everything looks like its going well.

Sorry i haven't updated in a while, I've been sorta busy and every time i come online i seem to think of something else i need to do.
Well, lets see, what has happened this week. I suppose the main thing was that the technical people at the Stoke campus went on strike and this affected us as they have the overall control of the network and the Stafford lot decided to do a full system backup, which meat the computers were off line for most of Thursday. this meant that we almost missed a second week of C lectures, but luckily the lecture theatres computer was back up just in time for the first one if the week.
Secondly, i have now booked train tickets to come home on in 3 weeks time. So i might see some of you then. If you don't know, it is a box that should let me run my Wii through my screen in its highest quality, 480p. It may be a bit expensive, but it also should work with the PS3. Talking of the PS3, if you don't know, a few days ago it was announced that it would come out in the PAL regions on the 23rd of March. I obviously will try my hardest to get one, but it looks like we might get quite a few so it shouldn't be too hard (i hope). I'll say on here when i do get hold of one.

Snow

It snowed here today. Not very much (well for less that a minute) but it still snowed and it looks like we might be getting more later in the week. Hopefully, though, it doesn't snow too much as we have already missed lectures due to the wind and we don't really have time to miss any more. It's also very cold up here, as you would expect. Has anyone else had any snow, please say if you do.
In other news, yesterday night, the fire alarm went off. This was very annoying as it was at about 3;30 in the morning, and its very cold up here at that time in the morning. Strangely it affected everyone, when usually only a few go off. Which would make me thing it would be a drill, but who does drills at 3:30 in the morning??? Ahh well, never mind, at least it was at the weekend, so i didn't have to have up the next day.
Unfortunately, tomorrow, we have room checks (again). Everything should be fine, but i may try to give my bathroom a quick clean before they come. Also i have badminton tonight, which is a good thing. It is our first time going this term, so i hope it is still running. Robert has got a racket especially for it, which is good.

I should still be in a tutorial right now (just). But at about 10 past 2 a man came into our room and asked everyone to leave and said that, because of the weather, Stafford campus would be closed until Monday. So it looks like that is the end of my week. Unfortunately we have no confirmation of this. Hopefully they will send out an e-mail later. Then again there were some police officers outside the octagon when we left, so it looks quite serious. And when we got back someone mentioned about the roof having some problems...
In other news, it was my first week back this week. We haven't done that much. Just introductory stuff. So far it looks like a similar idea to last term. 3 good modules and a bad one that everyone has to do. This time it being Systems analysis and design, or as its more affectionately known as, SAD. Not that week have started and C yet as the first tutorial was cancelled due to not having any lectures before it and the first lecture should be at 4, but that looks unlikely now. Ah well, the new java module and the web design module look fun.

Everyone's Back

It's got a lot louder round here today. Everyone else has returned and we actually had everyone in the kitchen at once at teat time today, which is a rarity. But, with everyone coming back, it means only one thing. Lectures start tomorrow. And with that comes early starts, as my first lecture on Mondays is at 10 O'clock. The good news though, is that i don't have any 9 O'clock starts, but my timetable is much more of a mess this semester. With lots of singles, whereas last semester they where in bit lumps.
Not a lot else has happened this week. well, apart from Friday was slightly eventful. Firstly in the morning, at about 9, they did a fire alarm test, which woke everyone up. But they didn't do just one test, they did about 10 of them. But it was funny though, because they did each house one after the other fir each go, so you could hear the alarm coming and going again after it stopped. And if you listened very hard you could hear it go all the way round. Then later, we went shopping and didn't get much. But when we got back, just as we entered the flat, we heard a man saying, "and that's why you aren't allowed chip pan fires". Which we though to be a very strange thing to say. But then when we got back upstairs, Chris said they had just had the fire alarm go off again...
Well, ill let you fill in the rest yourself, as we don't know exactly what happened. Well, i think that's about it. I'm going to get an early night now.

I'm Back

Helloooooooooooooooooo everyone
Finally, i have got round to writing this. I have been a bit busy with getting everything sorted in my room and sorting out my assignment to be handed in. And just when i thought i was ready to write this, the uni internet decides to go down. We are hoping this is to do with getting the IPTV working, as there have been rumers that they might have been sorting it over Christmas. But we still haven't heard anything official.
Other than that everything seems to be going well up here, it bit cold, windy and wet, but other than that, fine. I did my demo of my game yesterday and it seemed to go very well. She ticked all the pass boxes on the mark sheet and enough of the extra ones to get a good mark too. So as long as my report is good and i haven't don't a lot worse on the test than i thought, i should be fine.
Looks like i don't have much else to do this week. I might go into town later to check out the sales and spend my Christmas money. Thankyou to everyone who contributed to that money and thankyou to everyone else who bought me stuff. I would mention everybody, but it would take too long and i would just forget someone anyway....

Last day of term

Finally, all of my tests are over and i have finished my first semester at Staffordshire university. All the tests went fairly well, HSSN was harder than the others, but i still think i should have at least passed, i only needed 20% anyway.
I'm trying to pack all my stuff to bring home, but i don't think I'm doing to well. I'm leaving a few things up here though so it shouldn't be too bad. Hopefully i will be able to see everyone over Christmas and hopefully everyone will get to try my Wii, if you haven't already tried someone else's. If i don't see you, then i hope you have a very good Christmas and don't eat TOO much.

Wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

Sorry, i should have done this on Friday, but the Wii is just THAT good.
Well, to answer anyone's doubts, yes i did get my Wii on Friday, even though there was a shortage, but i was quite high up on the pre-order list, so it was fairly easy to get. With it i also got: a second Wiimote (with Wii play), a second nun-chuck attachment and a copy of super monkey ball banana blitz. Also the console comes with Wii sports, a collection of 5 short sports games, with tennis, bowling, baseball, golf and boxing. All apart from the boxing are great fun and when i come hone i am expecting everyone to have a go. Another thing people where asking me about is the motion sensing part. and yes it works very well and only takes about 5 minutes or so to get used to it really. and the best bit of with it you only need to press one or two buttons max for almost all games. Best of all, Wii tennis uses no buttons at all once it has loaded, you just play as normal tennis, well except you cant directly move the player, but the AI does that about as well as any human could. Well, i think i'm going back to my Wii now. See everyone next week

Fire alarm, movies and Wii

Typical, nothing happens for weeks then everything happens at once. Last nigh the fire alarm in the house next to use broke and kept going off. It wouldn't have been to bad but my room is only a walls width away from it and its damn load. So i didn't get a great deal of sleep last night. Next, i have finally finished the movie part of my assignment, which you can check by starting up the game and pressing m instead of g. It's not very good, but it should at least give me the pass mark. Which is all i need is I've done more on my game which should make up for it. Finally the Nintendo Wii is coming out tomorrow and i will be going sown to GAME to pick up my system. So don't expect to hear much from me over the weekend.
Also next week, i have a test for each subject, ending with 2 tests on the last day, so i have lots of work to do for them. But none of them should be too bad. I already have good marks in the other parts, so i only need to pass these and i do very well over all. The good news is after i have done those exams i can come home and see everyone. and I'm expecting everyone to have a go with my Wii. Well, i think (hope) that's all.

Just a quick thing i found that should help you save the environment a tiny bit more. All you have to do is click on the link below, install the program and sign up to the site and you should save power on your computer. basicly what it does is slowly turns off your computer when its not being used. But the best thing is it counts how much it saves so you can tell how well you are doing.

Nothing to eat

Hellooo everyone, sorry i haven't updated in a while. anyway, i have a minor problem in the fact the i just ate my last proper meal for the week. luckily, as i go shopping on Fridays its only 2 days and i think i have some super noodles at the back of my cupboard or something (no idea where they came from, i know i didn't buy them :). Its not like i didn't buy enough or anything, its just i forgot to check if i had any rice, which i obviosly didn't have enough of. never mind, it should be fine.
I have been updating my game more this week. It has some nice new features like a scoring system, so you can time how long you took to do it and try to beat the time. Tom should like this ;). Also the pacman has wheels and an eye, so he looks better now. I have also updated my website so that both that and my queens game have their own pages. So if you want to find them then just click the "games" like over to the left (<--, for Tom)(you may have to click it twice, for everyone else). I haven't done the descriptions yet, but you know what they are.
If you are interested, i have given mum a list of things that i would like for Christmas, so don't ask me, ask her. If you have any ideas of what i could get you please say, as ever i have no ideas... Well i think thats about all for now. I'll try to update more often if i remember.

Tests, tests and more tests

Not quite the same title as before.
anyway...
Last week, as i mentioned before, i had two tests, ISD and maths. I get the results back yesterday. not quite as good as last time but still good. 96% for ISD and 11/12 for maths. Then today i had my HSSN test, which was actually easier than i was expecting which is good. Expect the results next week. and just when you thought the tests were over, we had our second room inspections today. I obviously passed fine. We got back from out games lecture just in time as they where just about to go into Robert's room when we got in the door.
Another thing i have been doing over the weekend is working on my game (which can still be accessed from the link in my last post). Some updates include hitting the bollards knocks them down, you can now finish it but collecting them all, different sounds de[ending what you hit and lots of bug fixes. When i get round to it, i'll make a web page for it which (hopefully) i will update with all the updates as soon as i do them. I also started the 3D clip part of it (press m at the white screen to see what came with it) but it was take me a while as im not very good with 3D (and packman doesn't look very good in 3D).
Talking of games, i preodered Super monkey ball banana blitz and another controller for the Wii, so look forward to that when i get home. Should be load 'a fun. Well, i think that's about all, so ask if you have any queries and please comment so i know you have read this otherwise i may think no one is reading it.

Another game

Only a few days after i released my first game i have another. This one is slightly different. Mainly in the fact that it has proper 2D graphics. Also its not fully made by me. The skeleton of it was made by out lecturer so that we didn't have to learn high learn Java very quickly that will be the same for everyone anyway. But i did most of the stuff you see on the page. To run the game you need to load this page

then when its loaded (may take a while) enter your name in the prompt and press g to start the game. Its not really much of a game yet, but its supposed to be a little racing game, so try to play it as if it had rules, even though it doesn't yet. To move the little pack man thing just use the arrow keys. You can stop the game with the s key and when on the main white page you can press m to see a movie i didn't make. Well have fun with it. It should be easier to use than the last one.
In other news... today i had the second of my ISD tests and it didn't seem to hard, which is good, even if it was a bit long. I have also got a maths test on Friday and HSSN on Tuesday, so i should be busy for the next few days. Well, i think that's about it for now.

Queens

No, i don't mean anything to do with royalty, but the card game. If you don't know what queens is, its a bit of a family tradition and you probably wont be interested much past this, but keep reading if you want.
Well, basically i have started making a computerised version of queens. Its not that good at the moment. But my big idea for this is to have everyone who would usually play queens. All over the country. all playing together at once. OK, this is quite a long term goal that may take a few years. but for now i'm making a little version where everyone players on the same computer. So far all i really have done is the car shuffler. Which was a challenge in its self. I have made slightly more than this, but this is the only usable bit really. So, this is where you come in. Ha, you thought you where only reading this. Well, if you aren't interested in helping me test or aren't very good with computers then you probably wont need to do anything anyway.
If you are interesting in testing my card shuffler then this is how. First download the file carddealer.class from the bottom of this blog entry and remember where you saved it. Then from the START menu choose run and type cmd into the box. Then the command prompt should come up. type in "cd" and then the patch to the folder that the file is in and press enter. then type "java carddealer" and the game should run. If you know a quicker way to do this please say. from here on the game should tell you what to do and when it asked something just type in the answer and press enter. I think that should be all. Just please tell me how well it worked after you try it.

Hellooooo everyone,
Sorry i haven't updated in the last few days, but really nothing has happened. Well, nothing ,much of note. Last night was firework night, so i spent the evening watching fireworks from my window. They weren't too bad, but i have seen better and most if them were behind anyway. Ahh well, it was nice to see some and it was free to i cant complain.
What else has happened, hmm...
Well, my bathroom is now cleaner than it was before i got here, which is good. And everything else clean. I haver badminton tonight, which i will force myself to do as i haven't had much exercise recently. Even though i did walk home from ASDA on Friday, but i did buy some full butter flapjacks which tasted more like fudge than flapjacks. I think that is about it, so till next time...

Pontoon

Today, we had our ISD lecture as usual. Today's topic was problem solving. Nice to be good at this but nothing THAT exciting. But the lecturer's (Pete King's) example was making a game of pontoon or whatever name you give it. So we have finally started doing things related to games directly, which is fun. Also in games and graphic systems the assignment, which we have just formally been given, is to make a simple game. So even at this early stage we are making games and i should have my first game made by Christmas (or if not just after) - so watch this space...
On another note, since the shower has been cleaned, it seems to work a lot better. So now i can have a proper shower, which is good. Also i didn't see a single trick or streater last night. Which is an advantage with living in halls. But this morning there wasn't that many people in the lecture. So it looks like lots of people had a very good night. Well, that's it for now.

Damn Trains

I'm finally back in Stafford, but it was a lot more effort than it should have been. Firstly my gate pass didn't work, so i had to find someone to let me through all of the barriers and there are a lot of them on the underground. Then just as I thought I was home and dry (i.e. on the Stafford train) there is a signalling problem on the main line that goes through Stafford, so we had to take a half hour detour. I got back to Stafford station at 12:15 so i got a taxi the rest of the way, so i had just enough time to eat a sandwich before going to lectures. Which was good as i had 4 hour in a row ahead of me.
As you may be able to tell by the time i am posting this, i haven't gone to badminton today. I just feel too tired and would much prefer an easily night, especially as i woke up at 6:30 today and have another early start tomorrow. Well I'm back up here and everything is fine now. So i think I'm going to sleep. night night.

After a long day on trains and other public tranport, i finaly arrived home. I met Mum, Tom and Auntie Sue in London and we had a chinese from china town for tea, which was nice. Firefox 2

Firefox 2 came out at 1 O'clock this morning. So i have spent some of today getting that working and making it look just like before :p. If you don't know Firefox is web browser (like IE) that is open source so anyone can make add ons to it too make it better in anyway you can think of. But one feacher that they have added to 2 is a spell checker, so hopefully you wont see any spelling errors in this post. If you woulds like to download it, there should be a link over to the right somewhere >>>.
I had my last test of this lot yesterday. Which was a lot easier than i was expecting. 16 multiple choice questions and 1 8 mark diagram. So i should have at least passed that ok, which is good. Only one lecture today so i haven't done much.
I think we need another fridge and freezer as our ones are full and i had to have a pizza for lunch just to make room. Yesterday we had our first room checks. Mine was fine, as always. But she did say my bed was a bit low and asked if i wanted a higher one, but you get used to it after a while. Well, I've just downloaded the British dictionary (its on American at the moment) and i think it wants me to restart.

Today, I got my tests from last week back, both ISD (java) and maths. For the ISD I got 98%. And for the maths I got 12/12 or 100%. Isn't that great. And as its work 33% and you need 40% to pass (I believe), it means I only need a few more marks to pass. Obviously I hope to get much better though, but it's nice to be safe. Unfortunately the ISD is only worth 15% but as long as the tests have the same format and I keep up with the work that should be easy too. I have another test tomorrow. This one should be a little harder as its HSSN (hardware, software, systems and networks). It's only the hardware bit really, but that's the hardest bit. Ahh well, I should do well enough to pass.
On another note, I have just come back from playing badminton, which was fun. If a little tiring because we only had 3 people. Still good fun though. Well, i'm tired and I have a test in the morning, so goodnight.

Perfect Timing

Slightly more eventful weekend this weekend. The title refers to one of the few particularly good things that happened. Which was that, not like last week, was coming home from shopping; the bus arrived just after we got to the stop not just after. So we where back in double quick time. And I got lots of stuff as I may not have a chance to shop next weekend. Apart from The Sims 2 Pets that was probably the only good thing that happened though. The problems started when we got home and our stuff only just fitted in the fridge and freezer. Then later one of my flat mates was shutting the fridge and the drink side shelf thing broke. It seems to be staying now as we fixed it with selotape, but I'm not sure how long it will last. Also one of the kitchen windows doesn't seem to open properly any more. Ahh well, you can't expect miracles.
I have only one more test for now, so I can relax slightly for a while. But I haven't got the results of the other two yet, hopefully soon. I did all my washing today as I also won't be able to do that next week as I am coming home. Hopefully see lots of people then. I have my train tickets so I think I'm all ready.
Grand prix today was good. Schumacher did lots of overtaking. Shame he couldn't win but Massa probably did deserve it. And Sato came in 10th which must be about 5 places above what super Aguri have ever done before, so look out for them next season. Well, I thinks that's about it for now.

Tests tests tests tests

Sorry I haven’t posted in a few days, but, as the title suggested, I have been revising and preparing for my first round of tests since I got here. Nothing too bad yet, but a worse one to come next week. On Wednesday I had an ISD (Java) test which was fairly easy as we could bring in out work from the tutorials. Well it was actually a requirement as some questions said highlight where you did this in your portfolio. So that was fun. Then today I had a simple maths test on set theory and matrices. Also easy as the questions where very similar to the practise one we where given. The test had a very clever way to stop cheating though. There were four versions of the test. Two on each alternating row then alternating within each row. All where very similar, so none where harder than others, but different enough so that you couldn’t copy your neighbour. Which is very useful when there isn’t enough space to fit everyone with spaces!
Not much else happening here, but at 1 O’clock I am going to the post place to (hopefully) pick up my copy of The Sims 2 Pets. So don’t expect to hear much from me in the next few days. Especially as it’s the Brazilian Grand Prix too. Well I think that’s it for now.

Badminton

Today I finally managed to get myself down to the sports hall to join the badminton club. Well I didn't actually join, but tats because I can't as they haven't set up the system fully yet. I'm not quite sure if I will continue to play yet. I probably will but it's different to how we usually play, with lots of people an all. And the times aren't that good either. 9 till 10 on Monday when I have a 9 O'clock lecture the next morning.
Not much else of interest today, 4 lectures the same as most Mondays. We have had a change of lecturer for computer games and graphical systems though. But they are always changing round apparently. Yesterday I had the normal stir fry for tea, but this time I finally managed to get some chicken on Friday so I actually had some meat it in. It was chicken legs so cutting it wasn't too easy, but it was the cheapest one there. I think that's about it. I better go to bed as I have that 9 O'clock lecture tomorrow morning. Well, goodnight.

BUS

Today I went shopping, as usual. But today I finally managed to get round to catching the bus. Typically just before we got there one left, but they come along every 20 mins so it was still just about quicker than walking and much easier. And it only cost 90p which is quite good for a bus. As I was catching the bus I get quite a bit of stuff, including more rice and noodles and some DOUNUTS. Unfortunately our fridge is getting a bit full. One between 6 isn’t quite enough, but I found space in the end.
Didn’t do a lot else today. But I did pay for my accommodation here, so I don’t have to worry about that now. I also got my train tickets for coming home on the 27th of this month. So I’ll see you all then hopefully. Until then, you’ll just have to keep reading this or finding me on msn. Well, that’s it I think for now.

I can see again

Yesterday evening (well 2 days ago actually because I'm writing this in the morning) my light started flashing on and off every 5 seconds or so. But today (I mean yesterday) an electrician came round and fixed it within an hour or two of me reporting it, which is quite good service if you ask me. The bad thing though was I also reported one of the kitchen lights but it only flashes on every half hour or so. So typically when he came it was on, so he didn't fix it. Ah well, never mind, at least my one if fixed.
Nothing else much happened of interest and I have a lecture to go to in 10 minutes. So I'll leave it there.

Well not a lot has happened today, again. 2 lectures and 2 tutorials again today, but I had to wake up at 8 this morning, which is too early. In the afternoon, though, I completed kingdom hearts 2. So it took me two and a half week to do. But there is a lot more to do in it so it should last until the Sims 2 pet comes out. If I'm lucky anyway. Well I'm tired to I'm going to bed now.

Tests!!!

I've only had 2 weeks of lectures and we have already been set times for 3 tests, two of which are next week. One of them should be really easy as it’s basically a test that you have done all the work and if you have done it all (which I have) then apparently you can’t fail, which is good. And even if I do it’s only worth 15% of the module anyway, but it would be nice to do well all the same. The other is a maths test, so that shouldn’t be much worse.
Everything is definitely back to normal today, much loader than over the weekend. The kitchen was very busy today to as everyone seemed to be cooking at once, but got in first so it didn't really matter. Lots of lectures today, well not all lectures some tutorials too. 4 hours in a row, but it seems to work and it means I don’t have to wake up in the morning. Tomorrow I will have to though, which is annoying but do-able. I have my alarm set for 8. Well, I think that’s about all today.

Poor Albers

I was busy last night, so I'm writing this in the morning, anyway...
The Japanese grand prix was yesterday and it was quite a good race. Slightly unfortunate that shumacker had an engine problem because it means that there isn't really a championship race for Brazil. Also a shame about Albers, he was doing so well beating the red bulls but then the back of his car blew off. Kimi did fairly well though, from his grid spot anyway. As he said himself it was the quali that ruined his race. Another bad thing is that we are loosing suzuka to Fuji next year, which is a much more boring track. But the rest of the race was good.
Not much else happened yesterday, but i think everyone is back now, which is good.

It's sooooooo quiet

As i said yesterday, almost everyone has gone home. So it has been very quite round here. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Its nice to have some peace every now and then. And when i get my own house when i leave here I'll be on my own anyway. I did go shopping though and being Saturday it was very busy, i'm glad i only needed a basket or i may have not fit through the gaps :p. I didn't buy much though as i got lots last week and i had no one to go with anyway, so i just got important things and made sure i had enough for the week. Oh and i got lots of sweets too and only spend £15 , it all fitted in my bad and it was sunny so i walked back again.
Japanese grand prix qualifying today. Which was fun. Ferraris on the first row and bridgestone being much better than michalin means it looks like alonso will have to fight hard in Brazill for his second title. Personally i think, now that he is retiring, that schumacher deserves it, but we'll se tomorrow. Chance or rain too, which should be fun and help themclarenss no end. Well at least i have something to do tomorroww, even if not much. Everything will back to normal on Monday, so it'll be fine. Well i think that's all for today, any more opinions on the new look?

Well, maybe not. But, if you haven't noticed, i have made my blog look like my website. Some of the links done work quite how you would expect, but i thought it was quite good. What do you think?
I haven't done much else today. i only had one lecture, all about number representation in computers. Lots of fun. The rest of the day i have been finishing off the new blog look and on Kingdom hearts. Most people have gone home for the weekend so it looks like I'm going to have a very quite weekend. Ahh well, more time for KH2 and the grand prix.

Flip Flops

It was my longest day of the week today, Thursday. I had 4 lectures, which i also have on two other days, but with 2 hour long breaks in the middle making the whole day a whopping 6 hours. Ok that isn't a very long day really and i didn't have to wake up till 10. But it feels long when the day before and after i only have one lecture each.
With all that work, you'd think something interesting would happen, but even the java tutorial was rather dull. But the one thing i got a bit confused on was flip flops in HSSN. Apparently they are a small circuit that is in a computer that can store one bit. So basically its what makes up the RAM of your computer. That bit is fine, be we had to go into the detail of how it all worked. You'll be happy to know i wont bore you with that now.
Oh, the quiz from yesterday. If you want to have a go still then stop reading now and have a look at it. Apparently the answer to it is 6??? Confused, so was i until the lecturer explained. Basically the y++ means use the value of y then add one to it, so for this one equation y=3 and wont change, so both those pluses mean nothing for this example (but if we did another then y would be 4). Then the ++z is the opposite so we have to add one to z first so for this ++z is 3 (2+1). Then the second of the middle pluses means nothing as it just means that z is positive (but we already knew that) so you just need the last + to make it 3 + 3 which is 6. And now i think its time for bed. Goodnight!

If your confused with the statement above, then your not alone. Apparently it is correct syntax in java and you will actually get a result for x as long as y and z are defined. So a little quiz to prove that people are still reading this. If y=3 and z=2 what does x equal. As a little bit of help, a++ means do the calculation than add one to a, but ++a means add 1 to a then do the calculation. Well i think that's how it works anyway.
haven't done much else today. Lots of KH2 and some work, but i did get a nice little electricity billing system working. And it even has input now. I only had the one java lecture today so i have been doing nothing even more than usual. But i did cook a nice stir fry for tea. Nice, but a bit messy to clean up. Well, more time to do nothing, don't forget the quiz.

Access is denied

The Uni computers have been playing up today. For some reason so of my folders when i click on them it says Access is denied, but not others in the same place. And over in one folder only one work document was denied. I'll have to ask the technicians in the morning, if i get round to it. But its not too bad as i put most of my files onto my computer, its just a bit weird.
I had one of my wet pizzas today and it seems fine, even if my tray is a bit bend. Other than that i haven't had much of an eventful day really (again). But i think i need to do some work now...

Today i hovered my room and our Hoover is actually a Henry Hoover :D, not that it works very well and you don't seem to be able to change the suction strength either. Never mind, my room is now clean and relatively dust free.
Lots of work today, even though in our maths tutorial i didn't do much as i did all the questions over the weekend to catch up from what happened last week. In ISD we learnt how to input data into a java program, so my programs are usable now. I'm still working on getting them online though.
9 O'clock start tomorrow (nothing like maths to wake you up) so i think i should go to bed, goodnight.

I like doing nothing...

...so i am going to keep this short.
Nothing really happened today apart from the Chinese grand prix and KH2.
The grand prix was fun and the rain helped make it more interesting. And with it finishing how it did the championship is tied so we have a good fight for the last 2 races. Oh and Button really didn't deserve his 4th place what so ever as it wasn't his or Heidfelt's fault, so i hope he apologise to him. Other than that it was great.
Oh well, back to Kingdom Hearts

My Clothes are clean!

Sorry i didn't update last night, i got a bit distracted by other things.
Anyway, not much really happened yesterday. But i did do my washing so now all of my clothes are clean and it wasn't too much bother either. Grand prix today, which should be fun with a bit of rain for a change. I've been mostly on Kingdom hearts over the weekend so nothing else really has happened, so I'll keep this short.

My pizzas are wet

I went into town today. It was raining slightly but it had for a while so we hoped it would stop soon. Unfortunately it didn't stop, but more on that in a minute. In town I get a few useful things in Smiths then in game I bought Kingdom Hearts 2 and the guide and I got some free fridge magnets. Oh and I also preordered a Wii, which is coming out on December 8th. I'm 32nd in the queue, so i should get one on release. After that we went to ASDA and did some shopping, well i say some, i did much too much and should have got the bus back. But instead we walked. Which was fine for a while until it started to pour really hard and my poor pizzas got really wet. Ahh well, I'm sure it was good exercise.
When we got home, to my amazement, KH2 actually worked in my ps2 and the opening scene is amazing. But i wont bore you with that. Other than that i haven't really have a very good day today because i also found out my timetable was wrong. Basically, one of our maths lectures is supposed to be just for people that aren't up to scratch, so i missed that one that my timetable and turned up to today's one to find that this one was that one and i missed an important one. Never mind, the notes don't seem to hard to work out on their own.
Other than that the week has gone very smoothly and most lectures have been interesting.
Grand prix this weekend, in china, which should be fun, which with KH2 and the maths and needing to do some washing as some time means i should have a very busy weekend. Well, i think that'll do for now.

Not a lot has happened today. But I have started working with variables in java, which is in the right direction, but as some people in the group are completely new to programming it may take w while before we start making games. I should have a small game by the end of the year though, which if I can I will upload so they you can all see it.

Kingdom Hearts 2 (a game) is coming out tomorrow so I am going into Stafford town centre to get that after my lectures tomorrow, which end at lunch time.

Not much else to say really, apart from if you see the blog changing strangely at any time, don't worry I am trying to get it to look like my web site and so I may be experimenting a bit with it.

I hope someone if reading this, otherwise I wont be very happy.
As you may or may not know, I have just started a course in computer games programming at Staffordshire University. Which so far seems to be good fun and hopefully should lead to something good in the long term too. As this is the introduction I should post lots about myself, but I wont as if you don't know me then this blog probably wont interest you much, but that shouldn't stop you reading if you want.
This blog is basically a away to tell everyone what I am doing without having to tell loads of people the same thing. But also so I don't forget anything and tell some people some things but not others or even not at all which is quite likely. But I also may put other things in here to like my feelings about things and as I am a serious gamer I may put a few gaming things on here to when they happen.
A quick technical note. I have been trying to make my own blog engine, but I have hit a few snags so I decided to set up an account on here. When I sort it out I will start using my engine, but ill keep people informed on that. I am doing a modual on web design in the second semester this year, which includes some php which if I don't sort it out before should help me to sort it out.
What else, hmm, well I think I'll start blogging proper in my next post which should be up tomorrow if all goes to plan. Oh, also, please leave a comment (ask me if you are having trouble) so that I know you are reading it and if I get no comments then I wont continue, so its up to you!!!
